Absolute beginners' first lesson

Starting a new hobby whether it's sport, arts, music or basically any first time of trying something out that you have never done before can sometimes feel a little daunting, which is totally a normal reaction. But once you try it, you feel proud of yourself and you may actually even be enjoying it, as we say "the ice has broken", and you are already looking forward to the next lesson!

Lesson

If you don't have an instrument yet, that's no problem, just get in contact with Lauriane and she will advise you. She will also send you by email a pdf document (that she put together herself) which covers the basics of your instrument of choice, to help you familiarise yourself with it prior to taking your first lesson.

Everyone is different and has a different learning pace but here is what you will typically learn from your first absolute beginner lesson with Lauriane:

Fiddle

The first thing Lauriane will show you, will be the anatomy of the fiddle and bow, explaining to you the different parts and how they work. Then she will teach you how to hold the bow and the fiddle. Once you have mastered that, you will move to the bowing work (bowing on open strings), which is a big chunk of a beginner fiddler's first steps.

The next few lessons will consist of bowing work mainly too, but depending of how you are getting on, you will be introduced to the fingerboard and playing your first notes, your first scales and even your first tune!

Concertina

You will firstly be introduced to the concertina's different parts and how to hold the instrument. You will work then on your first scales at a slow pace. Once you are familiar with that, Lauriane will teach your first easy tune!

For your next lessons, depending on your progress, you will be shown other note alternatives you could use and some basic chords.
